Leeway, Inc. (“Leeway,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) is a Connecticut nonprofit organization founded in 1995. We are Connecticut’s first and only free-standing skilled nursing facility dedicated to the care of individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and we provide a full continuum of housing, case management, and clinical services across Greater New Haven.

 

We take the privacy of the individuals we serve, the donors who support us, and the visitors to our website seriously. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you visit leeway.net, how we use it, how we protect it, and what rights you have regarding your information.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

We collect information you voluntarily provide when you:

•       Make a donation through our website (processed via Stripe)

•       Submit an inquiry through our contact form

•       Sign up to volunteer or apply for a position

•       Register for an event or community program

•       Send us an email or otherwise contact us directly

This may include your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, and payment information (processed and secured by Stripe—Leeway does not store your credit or debit card details).

Information Collected Automatically

When you visit leeway.net, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical data, including:

•       IP address and general geographic location

•       Browser type and device type

•       Pages visited, time spent on each page, and referring URLs

•       Clicks, scrolls, and other interaction data

This data is collected through cookies, web beacons, and analytics tools including Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Search Console (GSC). This information is used in aggregate form to understand how visitors use our site and to improve our content and services.

Sensitive Health Information

Leeway provides services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS. We do not collect, store, or transmit protected health information (PHI) through leeway.net. If you are a current or prospective client of Leeway’s clinical or housing programs, your health information is handled separately under our HIPAA-compliant intake and clinical processes and is governed by a separate Notice of Privacy Practices provided to you directly.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

•       Process donations and provide donation receipts for tax purposes

•       Respond to inquiries, referrals, and volunteer applications

•       Send event invitations, program updates, and fundraising communications (including information about events like The Great Give)

•       Improve the content, functionality, and accessibility of leeway.net

•       Fulfill legal and regulatory obligations as a Connecticut nonprofit

•       Analyze website traffic and campaign performance using GA4 and Google Search Console

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for commercial purposes.

3. Donations and Payment Processing

Donations made through leeway.net are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment processor. When you make a donation, you are submitting your payment details directly to Stripe’s secure servers. Leeway does not receive or store your full credit card or bank account numbers.

We retain a record of your donation amount, date, and contact information for donor acknowledgment, tax reporting, and our records as required by Connecticut nonprofit regulations.

Leeway also participates in The Great Give, hosted by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven at thegreatgive.org. Donations made through that platform are governed by the Community Foundation’s own privacy policy.

4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

leeway.net uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your browsing experience and collect analytics data. Cookies are small text files stored on your device.

Types of cookies we use:

•       Essential cookies: Required for basic site functionality

•       Analytics cookies: Used by Google Analytics 4 to understand traffic patterns and visitor behavior in aggregate, anonymized form

•       Preference cookies: Remember your settings and choices on the site

You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect certain features of the site. We do not currently use advertising or retargeting cookies.

We use a limited set of trusted third-party services to operate leeway.net:

•       Squarespace: Our website platform and content management system

•       Stripe: Secure payment processing for online donations

•       Google Analytics 4 (GA4): Website traffic analysis

•       Google Search Console (GSC): Search performance monitoring

•       Convert: User behavior and conversion analytics

We do not share your personal information with third parties except as necessary to provide these services, as required by law, or with your explicit consent.

6. Healthcare Provider Referrals

If you are a healthcare provider, case manager, hospital discharge planner, or social worker visiting leeway.net to explore a patient referral, the information you submit through our contact or referral forms is used solely to facilitate that referral and coordinate care. This information is handled confidentially and in compliance with applicable Connecticut and federal regulations. It is not used for marketing purposes.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, including donor records required for tax and auditing purposes, volunteer and employment records, and program participant correspondence. Donor records are retained in accordance with Connecticut nonprofit record-keeping requirements.

8. Data Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect the information we collect from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. leeway.net is hosted on Squarespace’s secure platform, and all payment transactions are encrypted and handled by Stripe.

No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we take your privacy seriously and take reasonable precautions, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children’s Privacy

leeway.net is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

10. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the right to:

•       Access the personal information we hold about you

•       Request correction of inaccurate information

•       Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements

•       Opt out of marketing and fundraising communications at any time by contacting us or using the unsubscribe link in any email

leeway.net may contain links to external websites, including thegreatgive.org, government agency sites, and community partner organizations. This Privacy Policy applies only to leeway.net. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external sites and encourage you to review their policies before submitting any personal information.
